I could have given Michael Keaton a run for his money (if you don't recall, Keaton played
Mr. Mom in the 1983 movie) this past weekend. Heather started feeling awful on Friday night and it continued through the weekend, which meant I was on full-time baby duty. No big deal, or so I thought.
So, I have no problem caring for Hadley. I'd like to think I take a very active role in her upbringing and am proud to be a part of it as I enjoy the entire experience (some parts more than others, but I definitely enjoy every minute of it). Heather and I have become very process oriented and trade off nightly duties so we both can enjoy our social lives (though sometimes these said social lives are actually online), as well as be a part of Hadley's. I think we have a pretty good thing going as we both get our "me" time for email/reading/etc. Anyway, I digress. To my point. Watching a baby during the day, full time is hard as hell!
Heather was in bed most of yesterday (poor thing), so I had to figure out what to do with Hadley on a 90+ degree day. We went for 2 walks (yes I even put sunscreen on her), she fell asleep both times. We made silly noises, did tummy time, practiced air walking, sang songs, played in her exersaucer and cried (her, not me). Later in the evening Heather awoke from her day long slumber, still feeling groggy and crappy, but took her for about an hour or so as I vacuumed pretty much the whole house, did dishes and cleaned the kitchen, did laundry and made dinner. Whew. After that I gave Hadley her bath, fed her and put her to sleep.
Needless to say, I was exhausted and sleeping by 9:30. I know there are moms that do this every single day, and for any single mothers out there, I am giving you a standing ovation right now. I did truly enjoy spending that much John/Hadley time though, it was fun. She makes it easy as she is such a good baby.
