Teeth Grinding

Hi-

Has anyone experienced their babies grinding their teeth? Jack woke up in the middle of the night crying, and I noticed he was grinding his teeth before settling back into his crib. Since then, I have noticed it a few more times, during the day and at night. Jack is 10 mos. and has two bottom teeth and six top teeth, and two more are about to make an appearance shortly. He has also been sick for about two weeks with a cold and viral bronchitis. I assume its the combination of teething and not feeling 100%? When I rub his face or touch his mouth, he does stop grinding. Any ideas?

Permalink Reply by Heather McPhee on December 14, 2008 at 12:52pm: Hadley grinds her teeth when she is teething. The sound is just awful!!! We asked our pediatrician about it and she said it was totally normal and they are just trying to figure out how to use their new teeth. They also are getting used to just having new teeth. I had read to squeeze their cheeks together (gently of course) to make them stop momentarily. It has briefly worked for us, but most of the time she goes back to grinding.; ▶ Reply to This
