Kids Are Like Wine, They Get Even Better With Age

Sam (who is 9 months) is only napping for a half hour at a time. This has been happening on and off for a month. He slept for 2 hours today, but I was holding him after he woke up on the half hour mark. The funny thing is that he takes 2 hour naps for our nanny in his crib. We have tried doing the same routine as her...he just wakes up after a half hour like clockwork. Anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? It's killing me.

Hi Kara,

We just went through a little phase like this too. Our champion napper decided that shorter naps were the way to go--honestly it lasted around 4-6 weeks. She just started to get better within the last week. I really think that teething/standing/crawling and all other physical and mental milestones really play a part.

That being said, on Sundays for some reason Hadley naps really poorly. John and I think it's because she knows both of us are home to play with her. Saturdays usually involve errands and tag team chores but Sundays are lazy football days. Hadley definitely knows this and wants to join in on the fun. She also naps really poorly at Scott and Jenn's I think for the same reason.

I don't know about Sam but Hadley has also realized she has "choices" and will definitely let us know if there is something she does or doesn't want to do. Napping is one of those "choices" she doesn't always want to do. One of my good friends told me that as soon as you get used to one phase, a new one starts. Ahhhh, the joys of parenthood.
