Ok, I admit, I feel like "bad mom" here but I haven't read any real books on parenting since the newborn stages. I read a ton online and get a lot from other moms that I relate too. I would love to hear others suggestions. I feel like we will be entering toddler hood soon enough (tantrums? yikes!).

Building Healthy Minds by Stanley Greenspan. It's about what experiences your baby and child should have to 'create intelligence and emotional growth'. A lot if it is common sense - but backed up with examples and suggestions on how to handle situations along with describing the 'why' behind it. Greenspan has several other books that look interesting that I will someday peruse and let you know what I think.

I just started reading sections of Super Foods. Its been helpful in coming up with different foods to try, combinations, etc. Kyle went through a solid food hiatus during month 7 and now that he's started back up again I was looking healthy different ideas from our core pureed veggies. He still really likes his milk but I am trying to get iron rich foods in his diet so we won't have to go to the iron fortified vitamins.

I also read my free Parenting magazine and periodically pick up my Peditricians Guide.... which has brief sections on differet age periods all the way up to five. It also describes symptoms and illnesses of different areas of the body.

I just bought 'Happiest Toddler on the Block'...started reading it last night and not so bad. Since we used the 'Happiest Baby on the Block' like a bible the first 4 months of her life, hoping that this book will help us with the toddler years. I'll let you know what I think as I get more into it...which will take weeks since I get to read it for about 5 minutes at a time these days.

I also got the Happiest Toddler book a few weeks ago and seems okay from what I have read so far. We also got 'Bright from the Start' by Jill Stamm, which we have found great so far. If you're interested in the reading a science backed way to nurturing your child's brain development, I would recommend. She goes over topics and specifics you can do, and why you should do them. We found we were doing a lot of the things already in the book so far, but we have also learned a lot too. My husband likes to know the reasons/facts for doing things a certain way, so this simple science approach works well for him.

I just asked for that book for Christmas - funny you mention it. The Happiest Toddler seems okay. Some strange things (growling) - but I did try the 'toddlerese' and it actually worked. Scarlett is full of tantrums these days.
