Kids Are Like Wine, They Get Even Better With Age

My daughter Elliot had her 1 year appointment on Monday. She is running a fever and we have been home for the last few days... so there were no vaccines, but she did have blood drawn and was tested for iron and lead...

Her iron test came back low and now she has to go on infant drops for one month and then go back for another blood test. Have any of you had experience with low iron? What do you feed your baby to make sure he/she has enough iron??

Thanks!

Stefanie

Good luck Stephanie. Iron is most easily absorbed from meats. Iron absorption from fruit and veggies is enhanced by eating Vitamin C rich foods at the same time.

It's a strong flavor so you can use it as part of a sugar substitute in baking or other places where you may add sugar (although probably not much yet for your little one).

As a second, I couldn't believe how hard and traumatic drawing Kyle's blood for the Iron and lead test was. It made me very thankful that up until this point he has been very healthy. We were croupy at the 1 year appointment so only got the Hep A vaccine. We need to go back for the others.
Good luck.
