Kids Are Like Wine, They Get Even Better With Age

looking for some suggestions/advice...
we started cloth diapering ben when he was 8 months old...

with a new one on the way in september--i don't have any newborn c'ding experience...we have one-size diapes that ben grew out of so i am really looking at the first 8-12 weeks before he/she can fit into the one-size diapes comfortably...

i do have some kissaluvs fitted diapers and am going to use those (although i have heard mixed reviews) and some prefolds...
advice on diaper covers or kinds of prefolds (regular/indian)?

side note, ben was a larger baby and i have a feeling this one will be too...

thanks mamas!

Hi we cloth diapered almost from the beginning. We used Tidy Didee service and did the pre-folds for the first 3 months. For the first 2 weeks we used the disposable newborn diapers (Kyle was only a bit over 7lbs at birth). The prefolds and covers seemed really too big and it was difficult to keep the umbilical cord uncovered. After that the prefolds and covers seemed big but they stayed on and almost always kept the poop contained (I don't think any diaper could keep all of the explosions contained)

I have a stash of the one size bum genius and will probably try that the second time around to see if it keeps the umibical cord uncovered. Since after the cord fell off the small covers and prefolds fit him, for us it wouldn't have been worth getting a stash specficially for the newborn size. We almost got enough free diapers for the hospital to make it the 2 weeks anyway.

I don't have any experience with the indian prefold. I do recommend the snappi cloth diaper fastener. It was really helpful to try and contain that thin poop.

great information. thanks...
what kind of covers did you like? there seems to be so many reviews on them that it almost takes me back to square one!

you may get lucky for when your new little one can fit into the one-size ones.
Proraps are cheap option and work really well. I also really liked the bummis brites and bummis normal (brites seem a tad more waterproof because of lining). Both have really cute patterns.
In small, most of these can be found used in baby shops all over town. I'd probably see if you could put a little water on them at the shop to see how water proof they still are (ie. does drops of water pool on the inner side or wick through). If they haven't been washed correctly the waterproofing can not be as good as you'd want in used.

Also, their are lots of coupons all over town. It may be a cheaper option to not invest in the prefolds for the short window when you'd be waiting to get into your one-sizes.
Have fun

oops I meant in my last sentence to say coupons for tidee. (service to wash the prefold portion for you).
