Kids Are Like Wine, They Get Even Better With Age

Hello all,
Sam is 6 months old and has had rice cereal a few times. We are going to start him on veggies and fruits, but I have no idea how much to feed him at one meal. I think he would eat and eat if we didn't stop him. He LOVES it. I just don't want to feed him to the point that it all comes back up...yum! Any advice appreciated!

Hey mama~
The first time we gave Ben cereal (for real--not those 8-10 times when he clamped his mouth shut like a little clam) we gave him a few tablespoons of a veggie. At that point I was still a little freaked out that I was going to poison Ben with my own baby food that I did use those Gerber organic packs.
At any rate, whatever veggie or fruit you feed him, it's safe to give him a few T the first day-maybe with some cereal. Then work your way up, gradually adding more each day.
If you are making your own, an icecube of food is 1 oz or so and that is a good start. I also looked/and still look at the containers of baby food in the store to gauge...
I could be very wrong about this but I think it is also about breaking in their tummies--think about going from breastmilk only and then adding fruits/veggies that are very different on their digestive system (his diapers will second that comment!!).
Welcome to the messy world o' baby food!

Oh--check out a foodmill. I just got one, I think that Kidco? makes it--it is really cool and so easy to use with bananas and pears and things like that.

I bought some baby food specific freezer trays that are portioned to 2 oz. Hadley will usually eat an entire cube, but sometimes she'll still take only about half. Only 3 weeks after starting food she is having rice cereal at daycare (I suggest HappyBellies organic brown rice cereal), lunch is a veggie cube and dinner is the same. I have not introduced more than one food at a sitting yet.

One time we fed her too much and she kept eating but she would gag. Then she barfed up her sweet potatoes, so we've gotten better at reading her cues.

The food is a lot of fun and I've been usuing www.wholesomebabyfood.com nearly every day! Have fun with it!

Thanks guys! I did get the trays like you have Heather & I was checking out the food mill Sus. Someone else suggested that b/c you can just take it t the table with you and they can eat whatever you are having. I also use the wholesome baby food website...love it! Appreciate the input.
